I sure have been busy. I have been back and forth across the country and not much other than that. Lets see...lately...Columbus OH, Baltimore MD, Millville NJ, and now I am sitting in Nevada. The last few days of sunsets have been incredible. The pictures dont do them justice really...but I try. Imagine the sky looking like it is on fire with flames twisting and turning every which way. Thats what the last few have looked like....especially across WY, UT, and NV. Watched a little of the meteor shower tonight in the pitch black Nevada desert. Man....you sure can see forever.

12/2 Indiana

Headed over to near Columbus OH....be there in a few hours

11/29/04

Been out in L.A. over thanksgiving..... *note to self* Never move to L.A. type='text'>Ok Ok...here's some bloggage for you 10/31/04

Yes, it has been a while. It seems exponentially harder to get the time to update this blog regularly. Lots of stories....Death on the highway, CB characters....I even saw 3 escaped horses galluping (sp?) down the highway not too long back.

Been in Los Angeles this week. If you ever want authentic latin food you will find it in East L.A.
The menu was in spanish only. What a trip. Seems that the local gangs around L.A. even 60 miles out in San Bernadino have started assasinating the local police. What a crazy world we live in. So far 3 officers in the area have been killed this year. Not to mention I had a stop a mile south of Compton in the middle of the night. Giddyup.

On a brighter note, I did manage to escape the city of angels and find my way into the serene backcountry along I15 and I70. The ride through the desert was the standard fare this time. Nothing too unusual there. On the other hand, I did travel I70 through Utah into Colorado to Denver....straight through the snowcapped mountains famous for ski resorts (Vail, etc). The ride through Utah was awesome...check out the pictures on my http://wanderingbloggerpix.blogspot.com picture site.

Hey! Lets recap...read on you will be amazed that all of this occurs in this short time frame.

Wisconsin to Vancouver
- Tornado in Wisconsin where I was at
- Kill my battery in Seattle trying not to get hit in parking lot (parking lights left on). Service call.
- Get to Canadian border and they open up the trailer and search my cab (delaying me 4 hours or so)

Vancouver to Oregon
- Get the wrong load loading on the coast in Oregon. Lucky it went to the same town. Found out when I got to the wrong location in Sacramento.

Sacramento back to Oregon
- Kill my battery again trying to conserve fuel as I wait to be dispatched. Service Call.

Deadheaded back to Sacramento area for a load to IL

Sacramento to Chicago Area
- Truck dies on Donner Pass due to coolant temp. Pops the reservoir and all fluid drains out. Service call.

- Overheats like 10 more times after that on the way to chicago...pulled over in time. Just had to wait to cool. No service calls for these.

- Trailer tire blows out and shreds to pieces. Several more hours of wait getting new trailer tire at Truck Stop 15 miles down road.

Meanwhile....supposed to have been back home Friday AM. Its Sunday PM and I deliver tommorow AM around chicago.

Good thing I have a sense of humor. If you see a trucker on the side of the road laughing hysterically like some crazed lunatic then you have undoubtedly run across me in my travels.

Can't believe with all that has happened over a week and a half or so that I ran across free wireless internet at this truck stop at Iowa/Illinois border.

More pics to come soon and updates to the blog format as soon as I get a little time to sit down and seriously hash out a few blips at home.

WB

Went to Oregon...back in california again 7/7/04

Well, went to Oregon...back in Sacramento CA again....actually Lodi CA at the moment. Lots of pretty landscape that doesn’t try to run away when you want to take a picture. Long steep grades in southern Oregon and Northern California. Grants Pass and going by Mt. Shasta was pretty exciting. I smoked the brakes once and ended up stopping on top of one of the grades over on the shoulder. Didn’t want to catch fire to 40,000 lbs of paper. That wouldn’t be good. More pictures coming. Destined for Stockton, CA.

Oregon 6/29

I really love Oregon. Especially the Pacific Coast Highway. I have visited there before and was excited to return. Got to drive my rig right along the ocean edge for a little way over to Toledo OR if you are following on the map. In Oregon they have giant ferns and firs and giant everything. Absolutely beautiful. Words cannot describe. Posting pics soon. As for my adventure in Oregon, I did get busted at the scalehouse (chicken coop) for not having the right permit to operate in Oregon. Lucky for me the DOT bear was in a good mood. She must have eaten already because I got out of there without a scrape. I sure was a little uneasy about hauling wood products from the great state of Oregon. Some of those tree huggers can be a little testy. I just did the speed limit (30 mph on the coast and 55 on the interstate) and got through it. Took some pics. Posting ‘em later.

Vancouver, British Columbia 6/28 and 6/29

Spent the night just outside Seattle WA at snowqualmie. Wow. Sure it beautiful there. On my way to Vancouver BC. Got a pic of the space needle. The traffic sucks in the city. On the way into Vancouver I got searched at customs. They opened my trailer and rummaged through the cab of my truck for about two hours (after waiting another two) looking for “contraband.” Now these communists, I mean customs agents, consider pocket knives, mace, and a multitude of other things to be evil. So…..My feeling on Canada….nice to visit…pretty…wouldn’t want to live there. Took some pictures. I have to say that I am quite fond of I90 West of Billings, MO. Montana is a wild and scenic place. Throughout Montana I saw eagles, buffalo (though not wild), antelope, and deer. Missed some great photos of these animals because I gotta keep rolling most of the time. Occasionally, I do take a minute to pull over and snap a picture or two along the way. I have found that stationary targets such as mountains are the most cooperative. :P I usually try to get a feel for the local food whenever I get the chance so I pulled up a seat in a little diner and had breakfast. If you conjure up a country setting full of cowboy hats and lively conversation that will about sum it up. I overheard one conversation about a buffalo falling off of a cliff and onto a passing car. Ouch! I would have paid money for that picture. Anyway. I did snap some great photos and as always will upload them when I get the chance. I haven’t had internet quite some time now. I am actually writing this offline to post for later.

Fargo, North Dakota 06/25/04 (On my way to Vancouver BC)

Sitting in a Flying J in Fargo, ND right now jotting down a few blogs. Turns out i was smack dab in the middle of several strong tornados and it was too late to go inside. Riding out this kind of weather in a truck will definitely get the adrenaline pumping when those tornado sirens are going off and all hell is breaking loose outside for your viewing pleasure. I snapped a few very bad photos of the sky afterwards. The sky was bright orange where it wasnt pitch black. A very definite line in the sky. Very odd looking. I didnt get any good pics of the thunderhead or the actual rotating tornado. I did manage to capture some video of right before the storm. I will have to get all this posted later on. I just wanted to update the blog with my latest hair raising (if I had any) experience. This was no south ga baby tornado. It was supposedly an F3 on the rating scale. I don't know the validity of this statement but I know it picked up a tractor trailer rig and put it upside down in the median, ripped up a local prison, blew apart some houses and house trailers (no surprise there) and generally caused havoc.
Pictures coming soon.

OshKosh Wisconsin 06/23/04

Well I wrote this stuff BEFORE the tornado hit so I will post it first...

Well, I am in sitting at a truckstop in Oshkosh bygosh Wisconsin. Another trucker was running a little ahead of me and mentioned that there was a truck stop here with pretty good grub. I decided to stop and have something to eat and chat with this fellow trucker. Well, he had a few interesting stories to tell about life on the farm in Minnesota and I in turn shared some of my South GA stories of life on the farm by proxy. You see, I don’t live on a farm, but I have family who actually do live on a farm. Occasionally, I visit the farm and have an interesting story to tell afterwards. But I digress. For my meal, I chose the pot roast, mashed potatoes w/gravy, and a concoction they called cheesy fiesta. The cheesy fiesta was quite tasty but the pot roast was a little below average.

As I have said before, you meet all kinds in these truck stops. Before I could even park my rig, some bright eyed asian girl is running over to my truck carrying something. Now everyone has a story out here. I absolutely HAVE to hear this one. So she tells me in her best broken English that she is a missionary from Mongolia. Ok. “What’cha sellin?” I ask. She stands at full attention straight up in one of those asian courtesy motions and starts rocking back and forth and starts her presentation. All the while patiently answering my questions.

Me: You live in Wisconsin?!?
Her: New Yoyk.
Me: New York?!
Me: You say you are a missionary?
Her: I in school.
Me: How long you been in the states?
Her: One year ereven munfs. I go back to mongoria in one munf. Serring magnets.
Her: Mo-nee goes to AIDS foundation. You rook at magnets?

Then she tries to stick one of these magnets on my truck to show me, but it is fiberglass.

Me: (laughing) it’s fiberglass

So I give this missionary girl ten bucks and tell her to keep the magnet. But get this, when I give her some money. She breaks out with a muchos gracias. Fank u vewy much. Now I figure this girl is either speaking so many languages that she is confused or I have just been had. Either way, it was an amusing moment that was worth the ten bucks.

Houston TX - 06/20/04

Yep, Spent the night in houston. Headed to Appleton Wisconsin. Loaded up with heavy paper too. Had to end up sliding the fifth wheel all the way to the front to be legal on all my axles. Max you can have is 12000 lbs on front steer tires, 34000 lbs on drives, and 34000 on rear tandems. I finally worked with it (in a terrible lighting/rain storm) and got it to 11,540 lbs on steers, 33580 on drives, 33180 on tandems. Thought I would never get it right. Two different places to slide. The fifth wheel slides forward and back and so do the rear tandems.

Now the company is pushing me to run at all hours of the night to make an impossible deadline. They jerked me around so much last week they screwed up my hours. Now I gotta play super sleuth and run super weird hours to let some drop off at midnite each day and not drive too many to add back to them. *sigh* I am too poor to pay the fines. They can repower it if they don't like my timing. Besides, if someone runs under me or something horrible as that...yes, it does happen....I will be subject to scrutiny with a rubber glove and a microscope. That log book will cook me good if it isn't legal. With all the wrecks I see, I don't need that kind of headache.

More later...I need to roll. I bring this load down from New York to Carnesville GA only to find this load is supposed to be going to TX. So here I sit in the dropyard waiting on another stranger to show up and get my day going again. Earlier today there was a glimmer of hope that my repower had arrived. But alas, my hopes were dashed when I walked over to this stranger’s truck and asked if they had my new trailer. The woman, and I use the term with quite a bit of apprehension, turned around, wiped something from her mustache, and mutters under her breath that her trailer is empty. My hopes of finding my new trailer were dashed all at the same time as I began to realize that this person (who might have actually been able to kick my butt) was probably once a man. I quickly diverted my eyes from the six foot tall man boobs before me in utter disgust as I raced back to the normalcy of my own tractor and wondered aloud (as soon as I was out of earshot) what planet this person came from. I immediately checked my GPS to see if I had been transported/abducted to another realm and was reassured that I had merely wandered into the twilight zone but was once again safe and sound back in the cab of my tractor.

Carnesville, GA - 06/16/04

Going to deliver my load tommorow at suwanee ga. I’ve got to deliver on the 17th to Suwanee, GA. Good to be headed back south again. Got me another “hooter shot” again today. Too funny. This time the owner of the hooters was a lady trucker. She whipped those puppies out for me and licked ‘em. LOL. Each day seems to be a little more surreal than the next. It’s all really strange. Everyone has a different destination and they scatter about at each intersection of the highway. Some you chat with for a while on the CB and then one of you takes a turn. Some you wish would be going the other way seem to be hooked to your bumper and you just can’t shake ‘em.

Sidney Center, New York 6/15/04

I arrived in New York safely in the late hours of 6/14/04. On my way here I passed someone in a big truck who didn’t quite make their destination. They didn’t quite make the turn on the exit ramp either. Rolled the rig right over. Gotta make sure you slow that thing down before you go whippin’ that wheel round. Took a picture. Will be posting it on my http://wanderingbloggerpix.blogspot.com/ blog.

It’s pretty here in the mountainous region of New York state. I have been through it quite a bit lately. Although it is still not as pretty as some of the other places in the states, it isn’t too bad. Not quite as pretty as the blue ridge mountains of NC. If they took out the people it would rank higher. The area is inhabited by a bunch of people who say they live in villages and vote for people like Hillary. Quite a few of them seem to be “village people” if you know what I mean. New York city is a different story. I have not lost anything in that crazy place.

Stranger Than Fiction

Florida Man turns down millions of dollars for 160 acres of his land

Happy Fodders Day - uh, whenever it is

Well, today is fathers day. I'll try to get a few pics for the WanderingBlogPix.Blogspot.com to keep it fresh sometime soon.

Going across Indiana I noticed a bunch of oil pumps in the cornfields. What a mess getting through customs. First of all, the dept that is supposed to be expert at handling the paperwork issues for border crossing did not know how to handle this one. So I ended up waiting in line outside in the hot sun with about 75 other drivers. What a crock. Glad I had my passport with me. As I am standing in line some canadian know-it-all starts waxing poetic about his views on Bush and the War.
